A Heritage Worth Keeping

Hull's Heritage Farms is a small, family-run operation right here in Churubusco, Indiana. We raise Kunekune pigs the way they were meant to be raised — in forest, where they can graze and root freely year-round.

The Kunekune is a rare and special breed. They're gentle, naturally grass-fed, and known for their rich marbling and exceptional flavor. When you buy from us, you're not buying from a factory — you're buying from the Hull family, who know every animal by name.

We started Hull's Heritage Farms because we believe people deserve to know where their food comes from. Good food starts with happy animals on healthy land, and that's a standard we hold ourselves to every single day.

The Breed

What Makes Kunekune Pigs Special?

If you've never heard of Kunekune pigs, you're not alone. Here's why they're worth knowing about — especially if you care about how your food is raised.

🌾

Grass-Based Grazers

Unlike most pig breeds, Kunekunes thrive on pasture grass with very little grain supplementation. This makes them one of the most sustainable and natural breeds to raise.

🥩

Exceptional Flavor

Their pasture-based diet produces pork with rich marbling, a deeper flavor, and a quality that simply can't be found at the grocery store. Customers consistently say it's the best pork they've ever had.

💛

Gentle & Friendly

Kunekunes are famously calm and people-friendly. They're wonderful for small farms, great with children, and easy to handle — which is why they're one of the most loved breeds for homesteaders.

🏆

Heritage Quality

Our breeding stock comes from quality Kunekune lines, ensuring that every piglet and every pound of pork we sell meets a high standard of breed quality.

♻️

Whole-Animal Value

Kunekunes are known for their excellent lard production — which we put to work in our handcrafted skincare line. Nothing goes to waste on our farm.

📋

Small Farm Friendly

They don't root up pastures aggressively like other breeds, and their smaller size makes them manageable for homesteads and small farms. Perfect for first-time pig owners.

Lard-Based Skincare

Long before petroleum-based lotions, people nourished their skin with lard — and for good reason. Rendered lard from forest-raised Kunekune pigs is rich in vitamins D, E, and K, with a fatty acid profile remarkably similar to human skin.

Our small-batch skincare is made with pure rendered lard from our own pigs, combined with simple, clean ingredients. No fillers, no synthetic fragrances — just honest skincare rooted in tradition.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much freezer space do I need?

A half hog (45–70 lbs) fits in a standard chest freezer. A whole hog (90–140 lbs) typically needs a dedicated 7–10 cubic foot freezer. A good rule of thumb: 1 lb of meat = 1 cubic foot of space.

How far in advance do I need to order?

We recommend reaching out at least 2–3 months in advance, especially for whole or half hog shares. We raise our animals in small batches, so availability is limited and we fill up fast.

What does a deposit look like?

We require a deposit to reserve your animal. The deposit holds your spot and is applied toward the final price. We'll discuss the specifics when you reach out — no surprises.

Can I choose my cuts?

Yes! Once your animal is processed, you'll work directly with the butcher to choose how you want your pork cut and wrapped — chops, roasts, ground, sausage, bacon, and more.

Do you deliver?

Currently we offer local pickup in the Churubusco, IN area. Contact us to discuss options — we're happy to work with you on logistics if you're within a reasonable distance.

Are your pigs truly forest-raised?

Yes. Our Kunekunes live in forest year-round. They roam the forest, root naturally, and live the life they were bred for. We never use confinement systems.

What about the skincare products?

Our skincare is made in small batches from lard rendered from our own pigs. Availability varies — reach out to ask what's currently in stock and we'll let you know.

I've never bought direct from a farm before. Is it complicated?

Not at all! That's exactly why we built this site. Just reach out and ask Brandon — we'll walk you through the whole process and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
